NASA Finds Summer 2024 Hottest to Date
According to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), August 2024 broke the
record for the hottest month ever recorded, marking the conclusion of Earth's warmest
summer since global record-keeping began in 1880. The summer months of June, July, and
August 2024 were approximately 0.2°F (0.1°C) warmer than any previous summer in
NASA's history, just surpassing the record set in 2023. Overall, the summer of 2024 was
2.25°F (1.25°C) warmer than the average summer temperatures recorded between 1951
and 1980. Specifically, August 2024 was 2.34°F (1.3°C) above the average. This period is
defined as the meteorological summer for the Northern Hemisphere(NASA).
