Unveiling Political Worldviews: How Politicians’ Backgrounds Shape Their Democratic Perspectives
Prof. Ursula Daxecker (Professor from University of Amsterdam), Ass. Prof. Kris Rujigrok (Assistant Professor from University of Amsterdam) and Prof. Ward Berenschot (Professor from University of Amsterdam)
This project aims to bridge this gap by exploring how politicians’ individual backgrounds and their pathways into politics influence their political convictions. While much has been studied about the political opinions of citizens, there is limited insight into how politicians’ perspectives are shaped. Therefore, in this project we are particularly focused on (former) politicians’ views on various dimensions of democracy. By conducting in-depth interviews, we seek to uncover the personal and professional experiences that contribute to the shaping of their political ideologies.
This research will not only enhance our understanding of the political decision-making process but also provide valuable insights into the diverse factors that shape democratic perspectives.
