The impact of housing scheme on citizens, attitude and preferences

This project studies the economic and political impact of a large-scale rural housing program (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) in 3 districts of Bihar (Darbhanga, Katihar, Araria). About 8.8 million houses have been constructed for rural poor between April 2015 and December 2019. The researchers obtained the beneficiary list, randomly selected 832 Dalit households, and interviewed 530 households between January 2020 and March 2020 (contact rate of 63.7%, which is comparable to similar studies in other countries). The survey questionnaire was piloted extensively with Morsel’s assistance in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. The study included behavioral games that were designed on a mobile application by Morsel’s team.
