Welcome to the Hearts & Flowers : ECD Cognitive Assessment System, developed by MORSEL IT Team. This Privacy Policy applies to our Android Application and Web Dashboard. We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of the data we collect, especially considering the sensitive nature of child development data.
By using our System, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect several types of information to facilitate cognitive assessments and generate accurate reports.
A. Student & Household Data
The system processes personal information about students to track progress and identify assessments. This data is typically pre-loaded by administrators or entered by authorized enumerators:
- Student Details: Name, Age, Gender, Date of Birth, Grade, School.
- Location Data: District, Village, Address.
- Family Information: Mother’s Name, Primary Caregiver Name, Household Head Name, Household Head Phone Number.
B. Assessment Data
During the “Hearts & Flowers” game, we collect precise performance metrics:
- Reaction Data: Response times (millisecond precision), accuracy (Correct/Incorrect/Missed), and specific button presses.
- Session Metadata: Start time, end time, and completion status.
C. Device & User Data
- Enumerator Information: Email addresses and User IDs used for logging into the application.
- Location (GPS): The Android app collects precise location data (Latitude/Longitude) during assessment sessions to verify where the assessment took place.
- Device Identifiers: Information about the device used for assessments for audit trails.
3. How We Use Your Information
The collected data is used for the following purposes:
- Cognitive Assessment: To administer the standardized Hearts & Flowers executive function task.
- Reporting & Analysis: To generate daily reports, progress reports, and calculate accuracy metrics for Early Childhood Development (ECD) research.
- System Synchronization: To sync data between offline Android devices and the centralized cloud database.
- Quality Control: GPS data is used to ensure assessments are being conducted in the correct locations.
4. App Permissions (Android)
To function correctly, the Android application requires specific permissions:
- Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): Required to tag each assessment session with GPS coordinates.
- Storage (READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Required to export data to local CSV files for backup purposes (“Device Export”) and to read prefill data.
- Internet: Required to sync assessment data and student profiles with the Firebase Cloud Backend.
5. Third-Party Services specifically Google Firebase
We use Google Firebase as our backend infrastructure provider. Your data is stored on secure Google Cloud servers. We utilize:
- Firebase Authentication: For secure user login.
- Cloud Firestore: For storing database records.
- Cloud Functions: For processing data exports and reports.

6. Data Security
We implement robust security measures to protect your data:
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Only authorized users (Super Admins, Managers, Enumerators) can access specific data.
- Secure Transmission: Data transmitted between the app/web dashboard and our servers is encrypted over HTTPS.
- Offline Security: The Android app is designed to function offline, and data is stored securely in a local database until a secure connection is available for synchronization.
7. Children’s Privacy
This system is explicitly designed for assessing children. We recognize the need to provide further privacy protections with respect to personal information we may collect from children.
- Data collection is authorized by the participating schools or educational organizations.
- We do not use this data for marketing or advertising purposes.
- Access to child data is strictly limited to authorized educational and research personnel.
8. Data Retention
We retain the collected data as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy or as required by our agreement with the educational partners/schools.
